Mopra Remote Observing Coordination

Why coordinate?

It's very important that you are able to contact the people that observe before you to coordinate and exchange information. It is equally important that you are able to be reached by those who observe after you.

The previous system was relying on vi sessions in a terminal window to type between two people, as well as telephone, skype, email or any combination thereof. In short, it was a pain. So we decided to use a common chat room environment (IRC) for which you can either participate with a web client if you don't want to install any software for your client, or a dedicated software.

Please note that using IRC for handover and coordination between observers is not optional. It is a requirement. If you cannot support this mode of communication, you cannot remote observe!

If you're familiar with IRC, follow this:

If you're not familiar, just use the following web client and follow instructions:

Go to http://www.mibbit.com/chat, click the "Server" and "Auth" links and enter the following information:

If you would like to install an IRC client software

If you're the current DA

Follow the instructions above to connect to the chat room, and as your name enter something identifying you as the DA, such as "Narrabri_DA" as your screen name.
