Software problems - and their remedies

Problem Solution
the Tsys doesn't appear to have been performed on the right frequency
  • This is currently a bug in the scheduling software. Start your schedule, wait until you reach the first track and restart the entire schedule. The system temperature should now have been performed at the right frequency.
  • TCS does not take data after stopping during a scan and restarting
  • on the upper left tcs panel select TRACK and integrate for a couple of cycles
  • stop tcs and restart your schedule
  • ACC crash
    • You will recognize an ACC (Antenna Control Computer) crash by having a look on the little antenna photo in the atdrivemon window. If the picture is distorted and the panel displays DISCONNECTED you have an ACC crash. Eventually, ASSISTANCE on bungle will also start complaining with an ACC appears to have died! message (mote thet ASSISTANCE is not yet available on the Linux based system)
    • To reboot the ACC do the following:
    • go to the MAPS rack in the equipment room. The rack is the next to last rack in the first row. You will see heaps of switches.
    • on the 1M card you'll find the second switch from the top (after the pushbutton) which is labeled reset ACC. Push this switch to the left. Wait for about 20 seconds until you hear a faint click noise. Then, flick the switch back to the center.
    • In a bungle terminal type in
      > newcain setup
which will initialize the ACCs. It will also reset your pointing model to the global one, so will have to do a pointing after this procedure.
    • Restart TCS.
The telescope is doing nothing but you don't see an obvious problem Check if your source is up!! Unfortunately, there's no obvious source has set message in the system
no line visible but you know there should be one Check if mmdrive in the minos (yellow) terminal window is ok. If it looks suspicious, type in
     quit

    and restart
    mmdrive

After a restart of TCS the spectrum is simply zero This is because the Tsys is not defined yet and is zero (note that the spectra are scaled such as that the mean over tham are the Tsys). Perform a system temperature measurement.
The Tsys measurement does not work You need to have the GTP levels on a good value to start with - around 2 is perfect.
Camon pages or monitor web pages not updating
    • in a bungle window, type:
            > mp_server

    • Secondly, logged in as atcaobs on bigrock, type:
            > atdaemonrestart

    • If this fails to recover the monitoring within a minute or so read on.
Monitoring ok, but telescope not responding to commands from observing system
    • First, locate the bigrock window where atcalegacyserver was running.
    • Kill it with control-C. Once you have a prompt, restart it by typing
            > atcalegacyserver

      in a bigrock window.
    • Now restart the observing program(s).
Monitoring (camon, web pages) stale, telescope not responding
    • First try an ACC reset - either by pressing the MAPS switch for 1 minute (!) or by power cycling the ACC in the antenna.
    • If this fails to recover things within a minute or so, try above items as needed.
    • If this still doesn't fix things, seek expert help.

    • If it did fix things up, then before you restart observing do a NEWCAIN SETUP to recover the antenna setup by typing
           > newcain setup

      in a bungle window.
