Frequently asked questions

Almost all questions in this FAQ are answered in other places, however, this is an attempt to answer some of the questions that often puzzle people
Q.
Where are SCHED/mosaic/etc. files kept?
A.
The following are the default locations for data files
  • .SCH - schedule files - /atca/sched
  • .MOS - mosaic files - /atca/mosaic
  • .FRQ - frequency switching files - /atca/freqsw
  • .CAT - source catalogue files - /ATOMF/var/ca/cat
  • .EPH - ephemeris files - /atca/ephem
  • .POLYCO - pulsar bin polyco files - /cor/pulsar on caccc

Q.
How can you tell what schedule file is currently being used?
A.
Use the /status page on CAMON or
enter the command caobs> sho file.

Q.
I entered a scan (or whole set of scans) into my schedule file, but it isn't there now! What's happened
A.
In all likelihood you've failed to either add the scans to your schedule or actually write then to file.
This something that people often don't understand!
Creating a schedule file is a two step process.
First you need to add the parameters for each scan into memory,
then when you are satisified with the whole sequence you write them to disk.
