Observing Logs

Please use the Observer's Log Book kept in front of Pericles. At the end of your run, the photocopier downstairs can be used to make a copy of your log. You will find a careful log invaluable when it comes time to edit, calibrate and image your data. Some observers like to keep a record of the start and end times of every scan, and to note any unexpected effects apparent in the online visibilities. You will certainly find it useful to record any instances of interference or any other problems that you know affected the data: you will probably delete such data before calibration. A record of data filenames is essential.

There is also a Site Log Book kept near Orpheus, which is used to record notes or problems specific to array operations, e.g. time on generator power. It is mostly used by observatory staff, and is checked at the start of each day. Any lost time due to difficulties (including the weather) must be recorded in this book. For significant problems, please submit an online fault report, and include time lost due to the fault. If fault reports are not completed, faults may not be rectified.
