Synch Errors

A synch error is caused by the correlator not detecting the synch pulse within the time window in which it is expected. This results in no correlation for a given antenna feed polarisation. These errors are automatically flagged by the MIRIAD task ATLOD, so if they are few, they should not compromise the data. To view the status of the synch errors view the corr page in CAMON:
$CAMON>$ /corr
The number of errors is the total number of errors since the last time the error count was reset: Thus sometimes a large number does not necessarily indicate a current problem. So, you should wait for a couple of cycles and check whether the synch errors are increasing.
In the case where synch errors are increasing, try restarting the integration clocks using CAIN:
XBONES$ cain
And follow the instructions. (See Appendix on CAIN for more details.)
If you are still having problems, consult the Duty Astronomer.
