mm Observing

May-August (southern hemisphere winter) 2005 marked the start of routine observations using the 3mm receivers on the ATCA.

3mm receivers are installed on each of the antennas on the ATCA track. These receivers have a frequency coverage from 85-105GHz and system temperatures of around 250K across the band.

The the marginal nature of Narrabri weather (for 3mm observations) and the lack of a calibration diode and mean that observing at these frequencies is more complex than lower frequencies. The purpose of this chapter is to describe 3mm observation strategies and the differences between 3mm and other systems. Knowledge of ATCA cm operations is assumed.

See http://www.narrabri.atnf.csiro.au/observing/ for links to more information about mm observing at the ATCA.
