Notify

Notify is a registers itself with Archiver as a provider, but provides no data and doesn't make any CDROMs. When Archiver requests all providers to enter quiet mode (usually because one of the providers has requested a CDROM), Notify posts a dialog box asking if this is ok. Notify only goes into quiet mode when the user has pressed the ok button.

Because Notify prevents automatic production of CDROMs, it should only be running when someone is using the archiving workstation interactively. The purpose of Notify is to prevent the workstation going into CDROM production mode when such interactive use is in progress.

Starting Notify

Notify can be most easily started by pressing the Notify button in Launcher. Notify will start iconified. To exit Notify, deiconify the application and press the Exit button.

The natural state of the Notify window is to be iconified. Notify will automatically deiconify when Archiver requests it to enter quiet mode, then iconify itself again when the ok button is pressed.

The Notify icon is animated. The arrow in the icon flashes when CDROM production is in progress.
