CAMON - Compact Array Parameter Monitoring Program

CAMON is a text based monitoring system for the Compact Array and Mopra Observatories.

CAMON is started by typing camon on an xbones terminal. By typing commands at the > prompt, the user can select different types of information to display. Pages are selected by name with a preceeding forward slash (/).

Supported pages

The following is a brief list of some of the more popular pages.

/acc
Lists basic parameters about the antenna control computers.
/array
This page contains the CAOBS status, antenna drive status, turret status, antenna wrap, azimuth, elevation, system temperatures and wind speed. It is the default page when camon is started.
/baseline
Information about the array configuration and antenna spacings
/comms
Communication message information and telescope control task identifications.
/corr
Correlator/Delay Unit information (including Sync. Errors).
/cr
Displays the temperatures and pressures of the cryogenics system.
/drv
Information about the antenna drives and rates.
/dsd
Contains all the monitor points returned from the C51 modules (Digital Synchronous Demodulators).
/fe1
Attenuation, power levels and system temperatures for frequency 1.
/fe2
The same as FE1 but for frequency 2.
/genset
The status of the antenna diesel generators. Note that the GENSET status is a control point and may not necessarily be correct (if the change hasn't been sent to the ACC).
/modtemp1
Keeps track of module and room temperatures in the antennas. Concentrates on ambient temperatures, phase rotators and samplers.
/modtemp2
Similar to /MODTEMP2 but covers remaining modules. Concentrates on LO, phase transfer and conversion.
/obs
Cycle timestamps, source names, frequencies and antenna flagging.
/lo
Local oscillator and round trip phase correction data.
/phase
Phase transfer system status.
/samp
Shows the sampler reference levels for all IFs. It also displays the analogue gated total power and the attenuator settings (again, for all IFs). It complements the /STATS page.
/stats
A page displaying the sampler statistics for all IFs. It also shows the analogue gated total powers and attenuator settings for all IFs as well. It complements the /SAMP page.
/status
General status of observing. Includes: CAOBS status, integration cycle parameters, RPFITS file information and data storage capacity.
/sw1
Work area of SACCOM. Contains delays, sampler and LO phases and Tsys gains for frequency 1.
/sw2
The same as SW1 but for frequency 2.
/temperatures
Ambient room temperature readings.
/tcal
An antenna based page for use with determining the calibration for the noise diode. Primarily used by the local engineers. Contains the GTP, SDO, DSD, attenuator and sampler monitor points.
/tsys
Contains the system temperatures as calculated from both the analogue and digital synchronous demodulators.
/turret
Status of the turret (control and position).
/vlbi
Single antenna page sumarising receiver and sampler status.
/weather
Local meteorological evironment.
/7
Receiver summary for frequency 1. Has power levels, attenuators and sampler statistics.
/8
The same as 7 but for frequency 2.

User pages

User pages are pages that any user can generate. These may only contain antenna monitor points, and may not contain OBSCOM, SACCOM or any other software based system. The easiest way to create a page is to use the make facility in CAMON itself. To do this, simply type make at a > prompt.

Firstly, you will be asked whether you want a global or antenna display page. The former shows all antennas in columns, whilse the latter displays only one antenna at a time.

You will then be asked to type in the names of all the monitor points that you want to be displayed. There is a document on the available monitor points located in the Control Room (or possibly next to the Primary Monitor rack).

An on-line list of monitor points has been provided here.

When you have put in all the monitor points you wish, simply give a carriage return. CAMON will then ask you for a title for your page (with alpha-numeric characters only - no spaces or punctuation). Now, to access it, you will need to type a slash (/) followed by the title of your page.

The text files for user pages are kept in the directory AT$MONITOR:.

Specifiying the antenna for antenna based pages

Some pages refer to a specific antenna only. To change the antenna, put a second slash (/) followed by antenna number e.g.

camon> /tcal/5

would show the /tcal page for antenna 5.

Note that to check another antenna, you can just type the antenna number without asking for the page again. This time, no slash (/) is necessary e.g.

camon> 4

would show the /tcal page again, but this time for antenna 4.
