Introductory Information

This is a brief guide to observing at the ATCA.
The aim is to give observers enough information to do simple observations. More detailed information is found in the ATCA Users Guide at

If the information you need is not in this document, please check the full Users Guide.

After an astronomer has successfully applied for an experiment at the ATCA, the following needs to occur.

  • In general, the astronomer (or a collaborator) will need to travel to the Compact Array (at Narrabri) to do these observations. Experienced astronomers may be allowed to observe remotely.
  • The schedule needs to be constructed
  • Observations need to be done
