ATCA Release notes for 2011OCT
CABB modes: The APR11 semester will commence with the "standard" CABB 1MHz continuum mode available, and with up to 16 zoom bands per IF available in the 1M-0.5k mode. The 64MHz CABB mode provides 32 channels of 64MHz bandwidth, with a single 64MHz zoom band having 2048 channels across it, in each IF. For continuum plus spectral line studies, having one IF set with the 64 MHz mode and the other with the standard 2048 1-MHz-wide channels is possible. It is expected that the 64MHz mode will be expanded with more zoom bands available in each IF during the semester. Work will continue towards the 4MHz and 16MHz modes, however the timescale for implementation of these modes is not clear. Observers who requested these modes should make contingency plans to use one of the existing modes for their observations. CABB mode changes are mostly routine, except for changes to the 1MHz zoom mode, which requires approximately one hour: this mode change is done by local staff of the DA.
Array Configurations: As noted in the call for proposals, arrays are only scheduled if (after TAC consideration and grading) there is sufficient demand for them. The 1.5A and 6C arrays were not scheduled in 2011OCT for this reason.
Receivers: Work has commenced in preparation for the 6cm/3cm ("C/X") upgrade, which will provide coverage over the range 4.0--12.0 GHz and thus fill the gap between the existing 6cm and 3cm bands. The first prototype receiver may be ready for installation during the maintenance week at the end of November 2011.
Daylight Saving: Daylight saving starts in NSW on Sunday 2 October 2011 at 2:00 am, when clocks are put forward one hour. Daylight saving will end in NSW on Sunday 1 April 2012 at 3:00 am, when clocks will be put back one hour. The schedule is in AEST. During the daylight saving period, local "clock time" is one hour ahead of AEST, so 7am AEST is 8am daylight saving time.
Public Holidays: Monday 3 October is the Labour Day public holiday in NSW. Monday 26 December and Tuesday 27 December are public holidays in NSW. Wednesday 28 December is an Australian Public Service (which includes CSIRO) additional holiday. Monday 2 January is a public holiday in NSW. Thursday 26 January is the Australia Day public holiday. Easter falls in the 2012APR semester (from Friday 6 April to Monday 9 April).
Version History:
